Muse, Instinct and dots: what personal agents mean for your restaurant

The Shift, issue 1, October 2026. Three personal agents have started to call, book and act for people. Here is what each one does, with the date and the source, and what it means for a restaurant.

On October 6, TechCrunch put the three side by side: “Personal AI agents, like Meta's Muse, Instinct, ChatGPT's Dots, and others, are kicking off a new wave of consumer AI.” It added that people using them “are often running into issues when the website on the other end of their request blocks the AI.” (TechCrunch, October 6, 2026)

Meta's Muse

Live, with calls in beta. Meta launched Muse, a personal agent app, on September 8. (The Next Web, September 21, 2026)

On September 17, Muse “gained the ability to place calls to U.S. businesses.” (TechCrunch, September 17, 2026) 404 Media reported on September 22 that Meta is testing having these calls made by people in call centers. (404 Media, September 22, 2026)

Not every site lets it in. Amazon blocked Muse from Amazon.com and says the agent “does not identify itself while browsing.” (The Next Web, September 21, 2026)

Instinct

Invite-only, with calls in early access. Instinct is a personal agent that works over text messages. It launched its invite-only service in August 2026 and has since raised $1 billion at a $10 billion valuation. (TechCrunch, September 28, 2026)

Its calling feature, Instinct Concierge, “can do things like book restaurants that don't take online reservations.” It is rolling out in early access to some users. (TechCrunch, September 17, 2026)

OpenAI's dots

Rolling out. On September 29, OpenAI launched dots, “a set of always-on artificial intelligence agents in ChatGPT.” Each one “works from a cloud computer of its own.” They are rolling out to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium subscribers. (SiliconANGLE, September 29, 2026)

What it means for a restaurant

Assistants are starting to call, book and order for people, and restaurants are on the list: Instinct's founder named booking restaurants that don't take online reservations as one thing its calling feature can do.

Access is not settled. CNN reported on September 23 that a diner's AI assistant had pinged Resy “hundreds of times every hour of the day,” and that he was locked out. He has since had his account reinstated. (CNN, September 23, 2026) On October 6, Sierra and Meta announced the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard “that defines how personal agents interact with businesses.” It has not shipped yet: Sierra says it plans to publish the first specification later this month. (Sierra, October 6, 2026)

None of this tells you what an agent will read about your restaurant. Lodestar Stamp publishes what the City's records say about licensed Chicago restaurants, with the source and the date we checked. When an assistant can't confirm a fact, it may ask the person to check, or suggest a place it can confirm.

Your receipt is free. Watching tells you when it changes. Find your restaurant's receipt.

Every line above links its source, and we re-check the links on the day an issue goes out. We report what each company has said in public. Nothing here describes a relationship with any of them.
